| And you have not met all of the Batesian mimics either. This clerid beetle (Cleridae) is a carnivorous predator beetle, but it visits flowers (here, milkweed flowers) to eat pollen and nectar - neither of which contain cardiac glycosides. It can be said to sport the specific colors of the adult lygaeid bugs seen earlier preying on milkweed seeds, or be thought of as more generally mimicking the red-and-black so common among aposematic insects feeding on milkweeds. | ||
