As we moved through the forest snare by snare, a dynamic became obvious that seems to be totally unappreciated by bushmeat analyses. In the total day of snare checking (200-400+ snares), three had animals. This is one. This is a wood ibis leg (a medium-large forest floor and streamside bird), all that remains of the prey. This particular snare had not been checked for four days. Could you determine the impact of bushmeat harvest by standing on the riverside dock at Edea and tallying the animals passing through on the way to market? |
