The broken down and overloaded vehicles characteristic of logging operations in the neotropics are symptomatic of the overall view that a logging operation is to grab the most valuable trees and be gone. Instead of investing in high quality vehicles and low impact roads, the low quality vehicles on hastily constructed, minimal cost, roads are the first step to a gradually dying agroscape that should never have been converted to agroscape in the first place. |
