Once the ants on the surface of the tree have been essentially all caught, one then breaks each thorn off the tree and puts them into a large container. Each thorn contains the ant brood and the worker ants that refused to react to the disturbance by coming out to attack the intruder. This bowl is then put into the freezer to kill all the remaining ants.
