And when the other plants are cleared from an area (as in this Costa Rican case), so that the bamboos have no competition for light or in the soil - and at least theoretically are able to do maximum photosynthesis - they still flower and fruit right on schedule - but with presumably the ability to make maximum numbers of seeds.
