The same view and the same biodegredation site as DHJanzen100055.jpg, six months later (29 July 1998). However, THIS was not an experiment, but rather this was management. Again, there is an ankle-deep layer of black slurry smelling like Cointreau, filled with wild fly larvae, bacteria and fungi, busily making lunch of this agricultural product. The site was also seething with native birds, eating both adult flies and fly larvae. All plants appeared to be dead, but in fact there was a healthy layer of dormant seeds on the ground below the slurry. |
